The OpenMandriva Team is pleased to offer new ROME 23.08 install images.
These ISOs are also to be considered as upcoming OMLx 5.0 Release Candidate.
A Plasma 6 Technical Preview (cooker) install media is provided as well.
OpenMandriva Lx is a unique Linux distribution. It is fully independently developed, hence not based on any other.
OpenMandriva is the first distro ever built with Clang, starting with OMLx 3.x development cycle in early 2016, even before Android switched its compilers.
ROME is the rolling release designed mostly for individual users, it will receive the most up to date packages including recent security and bug fix upgrades.
Images and platform support
ROME 23.08 Plasma5 Desktop x86_64 and znver1 architecture
ROME 23.08 server centric images without GUI (also released as qcow2 images for virtualization)
Images for various aarch64 based devices, such as Raspberry Pi 4 and 400, Rock 5B, Rock Pi 4, and Ampere servers. RISC-V support is currently being developed.
The Plasma ’Slim’ ISO images offer a minimal Plasma5 environment and leave the users free to install what they really need.
LXQt, Plasma 6 Preview and Gnome Desktop spins
Spins: Desktop alternatives backed by the community. These versions are majorly maintained by their respective maintainers. All assistance is appreciated, though bug-fixing isn’t an immediate priority.
Many packages have been updated, including:
KDE Frameworks 5.109, Plasma Desktop 5.27.7, KDE Applications 23.04.3 (KDE Gear 23.08.0 expected on 24/08/2023 update will be available as soon as it’s released)
Kernel 6.4.11 (built with clang)
LLVM/Clang 16.0.6, glibc 2.38, systemd 253.8
Chromium browser 116.0, with JPEG XL support patched back in
LibreOffice suite 220.127.116.11, Krita 5.1.5, DigiKam 8.1
The latest LibreOffice builds introduce LibreOffice qt6 integration, making LibreOffice fit in with the Plasma 6 desktop preview as well.
Flatpak support. Note: We have no plans to abandon or reduce native packages. Flatpak, appimage and the likes are a useful addition in particular for packages we can’t package for licensing reasons.
More software upgraded to the most recent version available in repositories
Gnome desktop 44.3
LXQt desktop 1.3.0
As always, please read the latest Release Notes and Errata.

Please keep in mind: never use Discover or dnfdragora to upgrade Rolling or Cooker since the command they use is only appropriate for Rock systems.
To perform full update after installation, open terminal and type:
sudo dnf clean all;dnf clean all;dnf repolist
sudo dnf --allowerasing distro-sync
Or use the convenient shortcuts available in Application Menu, OM Control Center, or DnfDrake
You can get in touch real time with our developers at IRC channel #openmandriva-cooker at Libera Chat and #openmandriva-cooker:matrix.org in matrix.
The ’Update channel’ set to Rolling. That means these ISOs use rolling repositories.
Repositories should never be mixed.
To enable/disable additional repositories we have OpenMandriva own tool Software Repository Selector (om-repo-picker).
